During the scholar’s forum “Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr.: An African-American Perspective,” a panel overview was held on the record of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. The panelists discussed the nominee’s opinions as an appellate judge and service as an administration lawyer for former President Ronald Reagan. They concluded that Judge Alito would be hostile to civil rights advances, including voting rights, employment discrimination, affirmative action, and immigration. Chancellor Pitcher moderated the event. Law School Deans Broderick and Schmoke gave the closing remarks. close
