Mr. McClellan spoke briefly to reporters about the confirmation hearing for Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from the reporters. Among the topics he discussed were nuclear violations by Iran; relieving Iraq’s debt and President Bush’s comments on war critics; the health of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Vice President Richard Cheney; and a planned January 11 speech by the president regarding efforts to combat terrorism. close
