The Third Wednesdays Non-Fiction book discussion group met at the Savage Branch Library to discuss James Bradley’s book, Flyboys: A True Story of Courage, published by Little Brown and Company. In this follow-up to his 2000 book, Flags of Our Fathers, Mr. Bradley wrote about nine American Navy and Marine aviators who were shot down off the island of Chichi Jima. Eight of the men were executed by Japanese soldiers on the island. The ninth, George H. W. Bush, was picked up by an American submarine and later became the 41st president of the United States. The program was introduced with a video clip of James Bradley talking about his book at the National Book Festival on October 4, 2003. close
