Chancellor Brown delivered the keynote speech at the annual Fabian Society conference that was held at the Imperial College of London University. Mr. Brown has served as the government’s chief financial minister since 1997, and is expected to be elected Labour Party Leader when Prime Minister Blair steps down. In his speech He called for renewed British patriotism along with social responsibility and liberty, and he called for a new constitutional settlement. He argued that Britain needed to redefine itself as a nation in order to deal properly with the rest of the world. Among his proposals was to change Remembrance Sunday to a holiday called British Day. After his speech he responded to questions from members of the audience.
