Freelance journalist David Axe was in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq. He spent one day visiting newspaper offices in Erbil. The first newspaper, Khabat belongs to the Kurdistan Democratic Party, one of the two dominant parties that run the Kurdish region. The second newspaper, Hawlati, is the only major independent newspaper in the region. Mr. Axe interviewed the editors of both papers, while Mr. Khedir translated into English. They talked about the political philosophies contained within the newspapers. close
