A 20th anniversary remembrance service for the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger was held at the Space Mirror Memorial at the Kennedy Space Center. Speakers included June Scobee Rogers, wife of the late Francis “Dick” Scobee, commander of the ill-fated Challenger flight; their son, Col. Richard Scobee; Rick Hauck, commander of Discovery on the first post Challenger mission; and Joseph P. Allen, astronaut and chairman of the Challenger Center for Space Education. They spoke about the lives of the astronauts and of the astronauts' families. They also spoke about the importance of continuing the exploration of space.

The ceremony began with music, a flag ceremony, and an invocation. At the conclusion of the ceremony Mrs. Rodgers and Mr. Gerstenmaier laid a wreath at the base of the Space Mirror Memorial. Stephen Feldman led the service.
