The National Women’s Political Caucus marked its twentieth anniversary in Washington with a celebration of the twenty years of history travelled by the organization and its members. The party saluted the founding members of the political caucus, and featured speeches on the advances made by the organization from notable women’s rights advocates including Linda Ellerbee and Gloria Steinem, and politicians including Shirley Chisholm and Geraldine Ferraro. Speakers described their experiences in working in politics during the beginning and rise of the women’s rights movement. The National Women’s Political Caucus was formed in 1971 to promote issues important to women in Washington politics and to encourage greater participation in the political process by women. Twenty years later, the caucus continues to advance the cause for women in and out of the halls of Congress. close
