Kennedy and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and its impact on the Cold War. Beschloss, a Chicago native, did his undergraduate work at Williams College and received his graduate degree from Harvard University. He was allowed to obtain new information about the years 1960-1963 due to the reforms in the Soviet Union as well as the Freedom of Information Act. Beschloss explained the parallels in the Kennedy and Khruschev administrations, particularly in the roles of Robert F. Kennedy and the son-in-law of Khruschev. Beschloss stated that his most valuable sources of information came from interviews conducted in the Soviet Union. He also mentioned the importance of his new findings about the Bay of Pigs and the Berlin Wall operations of the early 1960s.
