Secretary Bodman testified about the fiscal year 2007 budget proposal for the Department of Energy. He referred to President Bush’s remarks in the State of the Union Speech about new priorities for decreasing oil consumption. He provided highlights of the budget request, including a 14 percent increase in funding for science programs as part of a competitiveness initiative. Other topics included funds for new clean energy sources, fuel efficiency for cars and trucks, nuclear energy, and the Yucca Mountain storage site. close
