State energy officials talked about the immediate need for Congress to provide supplemental funding for energy efficiency and low-income energy assistance programs for fiscal year 2006. In addition, they called for a significant funding increase over the president’s fiscal year 2007 budget for these programs. The programs were designed to help reduce the nation’s dependence on imported energy, reduce emissions, strengthen industry, and meet the needs of low and moderate-income families. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
