Bruce Cumings talked about his book Korea’s Place in the Sun: A Modern History, published by W. W. Norton and Company. Topics included the history of Korea and the country’s long-running encounters with the West. Professor Cumings argued that Americans receive a very distorted picture of North Korea form the U.S. media and says that the North Korean government would like to normalize relations with the United States, but their efforts have been thwarted by hawks in the Bush administration. He also talked about what the future might look like if there was a unification between North and South Korea. Professor Cumings took questions from members of the audience following his remarks. close
