Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander and President Bush spoke in the White House Rose Garden on the creation of the New American Schools Development Corporation, a business organization create by business leaders as part of the president’s Education:2000 education initiatives. The corporation was created to aid in the building of new experimental schools, thus fulfilling two goals of the government’s education initiatives: to involve businesses in American education to a greater extent, and to create new schools and schooling methods to improve the nation’s youth. The corporation hopes to solicit $200 million from American businesses to build 535 experimental schools to serve as models for other American schools. The corporation is made up of 18 business, education, and political leaders. close
