President Bush answered questions on a number of topics from reporters in the White House Briefing Room. In his answers to several questions on Iraq, President Bush rejected the idea that civil war had broken out in Iraq, denied that he wanted to invade that country from the beginning of his presidency and defended the performance of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in the face of calls for his resignation. He also responded to several questions regarding media speculation about a shake up in his White House staff. He said that his aides worked hard and had his confidence, adding that he listened to advice and appreciated it “most of the time.” close
