Michael Rudolph West talked about his biography The Education of Booker T. Washington: American Democracy and the Idea of Race Relations, published by Columbia University Press. Professor West talked about the ideological origins of the civil rights movement and explains Washington’s views on race-relations. Professor West also argued that Booker T. Washington was championed by whites because of Washington’s support for segregation and democracy. He also responded to questions from members of the audience. close
