Michael Novak and his daughter Jana Novak talked about their book Washington’s God: Religion, Liberty, and the Father of Our Country, published by Basic Books. They talked about the religious life of Founding Father George Washington from the perspective that he was a Christian, not a deist, as historians typically characterize him. They described their research of Washington’s religious pronouncements, saying that George Washington did in fact worship the God of the Bible and did not embrace the idea of the absentee creator. The Novaks were joined by Daniel Dreisbach and Matthew Spalding to discuss their perception of George Washington and the role of faith in government. After their presentations they answered audience members' questions. close
