Alexander Polikoff talked about his book Waiting for Gautreaux: A Story of Segregation, Housing, and the Black Ghetto, published by Northwestern University Press. Mr. Polikoff tells the story of the civil rights struggle over housing segregation. The book focuses on the landmark Chicago public housing suit Gautreaux v. CHA and HUD brought on behalf of underprivileged black families seeking housing outside of the predominantly black ghetto.

Mr. Polikoff successfully argued the case locally and federally. He was the executive director of the Business and Professional People for the Public Interest law and Policy Center for 29 years. He also responded to questions from members of the audience. close
