The Senate Judiciary Committee met to mark up pending legislation including a draft bill on comprehensive immigration overhaul. Members proposed and debated various amendments to the legislation, including amendments on border security enforcement, guest worker programs, U.S. labor and economic issues, and potential citizenship programs. At the end of the hearing the committee passed a proposal that differed significantly from a House version of legislation which included provisions for lawful employment of illegal immigrants and work visas for new immigrants. close
