Michael Grunwald talked about his book The Swamp: The Everglades, Florida and the Politics of Paradise, published by Simon and Schuster. He described what he calls the destruction and possible resurrection of the Everglades, the efforts to drain the Everglades in Florida, and the Army Corps of Engineers converting half of the Everglades into sprawling suburbs and sugar plantations. Mr. Grunwald argued that the Everglades are still threatened by the same hubris that led to their decline. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions.
