Candace Nelson moderated a panel titled “Televised Political Advertising, the Role of Political Consultants and the Conduct of the Modern Campaign.” Panelists focused on the impact television advertising has had on the campaign process and political discourse, negative campaign advertisements as an election tool, voter targeting and market data research, and the future use of media in campaign cycles. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.

This was the third part of a day-long forum on the State of American Democracy was held at the Kay Spiritual Life Center at American University in which political leaders and scholars discussed the role of religion in politics, political consulting and the conduct of campaigns, changing directions of political parties, redistricting issues, the media’s public service role, and campaign finance reform. close
