Sometime in January, 2006, freelance journalist David Axe visited a U.S. base in Ramadi, which is about 70 miles west of Baghdad in Iraq’s Anbar Province. He was embedded with a battalion of Navy Seabees at Camp Ramadi. Ramadi is in an area of high insurgent activity, and the Seabees were working on construction projects to fortify facilities at the base. close
