The Iraqi Parliament convened in Baghdad and unanimously nominated a new prime minister. Jawad Maliki, a Shiite politician, has 30 days to present his cabinet to parliament for approval. He replaces outgoing Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari. This event include speeches by the Iraqi president and the outgoing Iraqi prime minister to the assembly. Following the assembly, Mr. Maliki spoke to reporters briefly.
