Tavis Smiley, author of Keeping the Faith: Stories of Love, Courage, Healing, and Hope from Black America, talks with Taylor Branch, author of At Canaan’s Edge: America in the King Years, 1965-68. Mr. Smiley also talked about the book he edited and compiled, The Covenant with Black America. They discussed the beliefs and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., today’s politics compared with the 1960s, the civil rights movement, inequality of women, voting rights, and the concept of nonviolent protest. After their discussion both men answered audience members' questions. close
