Located on the ground floor of the U.S. Capitol, this room served as the home of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1810-1860. Designed by renowned architects Benjamin Henry Latrobe and later Charles Bullfinch, the chamber is where landmark cases such as The Amistad, McCullough v. Maryland and Dred Scott v. Sandford were argued. Busts in the chamber of early Chief Justices such as John Marshall, and later Roger Taney, reflect those key individuals overseeing the Court and its role in how our government was shaped, as well as how decisions in the Court impacted the course of U.S. history. close
