John Arquilla talked by remote video from Monterey, Calif., about the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as the potential lessons for the U.S. military from the operations in the region. He also talked about how current military conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East were being fought through “net warfare” in which independent small units of fighters engaged larger, better-equipped armies. Ten years ago, he coined the phrase to describe this unconventional way of fighting and subsequently taught this concept at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
