Deputy Chief of Mission Issacharoff talked about his reaction to the rejection the previous day by Israel’s prime minister of calls for an independent investigation of his government’s handling of the 34-day war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. He also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail.

Ehud Olmert had authorized a narrower probe to be headed by an ex-chief of Israel’s spy agency, the Mossad. Prime Minister Olmert said that his decision to launch a ground offensive in Lebanon, even as cease-fire talks were under way, helped push the agreement through the United Nations. He also talks about the next steps for U.N. troops in the region. close
