Panelists spoke about the role of religion in the Middle East and its influence on tensions and violence in the region. They addressed ideological conflicts between Suni and Shiite adherents of Islam, conflicts between Jews and Muslims, Christian interests in the Middle East, and the manner in which ethnic and religious tensions had influenced international foreign policy in the region. They also talked about the impact of U.S. military presence in Iraq, recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, and the history of sectarian strife on current relations between various interested parties in the Middle East. Following their comments they answered questions from the audience. close
