Mr. Sweeney held an annual Labor Day press conference to talk about labor issues and announce a major political effort to mobilize voters, target competitive campaign races, and bring labor issues to the forefront of the 2006 midterm elections. He and other officials highlighted issues such as the minimum wage, health care, retirement security, and labor organizing activity.
