Contributors and the editor discussed the book, Counterterrorism Strategies: Successes and Failures of Six Nations, published by Potomac Books. They said that the worst is yet to come in terms of global terrorism, but that ultimately, civilization will survive its effects. They described how the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Egypt, and Sri Lanka have responded to a wide spectrum of terrorist challenges since the 1970s. Drawing on the findings in the book, the panelists discussed similarities and differences in state counterterrorism strategies, highlighting “best practices” and other lessons learned. They suggested counterterrorism strategies such as further empowering law enforcement, fostering international cooperation, and attempting to internally divide the enemy. After their presentations they responded to audience members' questions. close
