Representative Obey and Representative Murtha released recent findings on the state of the U.S. Army’s readiness for war. They also spoke to the media about a resolution calling for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign. In their remarks they highlighted several areas in which the military was poorly equipped and lacked resources for sustained operations in combat zones, criticized Secretary Rumsfeld and President Bush for failures to properly maintain military readiness during military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and talked about assessments by senior officers regarding the situation.
