The House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations holds a hearing on the topic “What Are the Consequences of Leaving Iraq?” Fouad Ajami testified about the necessity of maintaining U.S. troops levels in Iraq. James Fearon, a civil war expert, testified about the current levels of sectarian violence and future potential for civil war. Peter Galbraith, of the faculty of the National War College, testified about suggestions offered by some experts on the division of Iraq into three parts. Witnesses also testified about the possibilities of political reconciliation between Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds made in a previous hearing held earlier in the week. close
