Josef Joffe talked about his book, Uberpower: The Imperial Temptation of America, published by W.W. Norton. Mr. Joffe talked about the role of the United States as the world’s only superpower, including the major military actions taken by the U.S. since the decline of the USSR, the 1991 Gulf War, the invasion of Afghanistan following September 11, and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He argued that while the first two were legitimate actions that enhanced U.S. credibility around the world, the 2003 invasion of Iraq was not legitimate or beneficial. He also talked about German politics and European attitudes towards Americans and American culture. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions. close
