Jeff Broadwater talked about his biography, George Mason, Forgotten Founder, published by The University of North Carolina Press. He chronicled the life and public career of Founding Father George Mason (1725-1792), known as the “Father of the Bill of Rights.” George Mason wrote the Virginia Declaration of Rights, the model for the Bill of Rights, refusing to sign the U.S. Constitution when it did not include the Bill of Rights. Mr. Broadwater described Mason’s roles in the Stamp Act Crisis, the American Revolution, and the drafting of Virginia’s first state constitution. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions.
