Historian Emilie Raymond talked about her book, From My Cold, Dead Hands: Charlton Heston and American Politics, published by University Press of Kentucky. She described Charlton Heston’s movie career and his decades of political activism, including his efforts on behalf of both Democratic and Republican candidates, his advocacy for civil rights, and his presidency of the National Rifle Association. She said that Heston’s beliefs parallel those of neoconservatives and that he assisted the neoconservative movement by popularizing its ideas. After her presentation the author responded to audience members' questions. close
