Geoffrey Robertson talked about his book, The Tyrannicide Brief: The Story of the Man Who Sent Charles I to the Scaffold, published by Pantheon. He recounted the 1649 trial of King Charles I, who had waged several civil wars throughout England. Parliament selected Puritan lawyer John Cooke to bring the king to justice. Other topics included the abolition of torture in English law, the trial of Saddam Hussein, the exile of Napoleon Bonaparte, the declaration of human rights, bureaucratic corruption, and the Geneva Convention. There was no question-and-answer session.
