Greg Grandin talked about his book, Empire’s Workshop: Latin America, the United States, and the Rise of the New Imperialism, published by Metropolitan Books. He discussed U.S. relations with Latin America, explaining that the U.S. has intervened in Latin America repeatedly from Thomas Jefferson’s presidency to the current Bush administration. At this event he focused on the Reagan administration’s involvement in Central America during the 1980s, when it backed the Salvadoran government in a civil war and the Nicaraguan Contras against the Sandinista regime. After his presentation he responded to audience members' questions. close
