Rodric Braithwaite talked about his book Moscow 1941: A City and Its People at War, published by Knopf. He described the social history of Germany’s 1941 attack on Russia, saying the 1941 Battle of Moscow marked the first strategic defeat of the German armed forces in their march across Europe. The author, a former British ambassador in Moscow, described the attack as the turning point of World War II. He said he used interviews and diaries to describe the personal reactions of several people affected by the invasion. Almost one million Russians died by the end of that year. After his presentation Ambassador Braithwaite responded to audience members' questions. close
