At a session of the American Civil Liberties Union membership conference a panel moderated by Jackie Northam spoke on “Abuse of Power: Law, American Values and the National Interest.” Among the topics they addressed were the use of executive power in issues affecting national security, detainee treatment and allegations of torture, and civil rights. They also talked about the separation of powers doctrine, role of the courts in promoting human rights, and the influence of special interests on policy making. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience. close
