President Bush held a news conference in the East Room of the White House on U.S. policy in Iraq. In his statement he said that the administration would pursue several “benchmarks” for progress in Iraq before considering any troop withdrawals. He also said that the administration was constantly refining tactics to provide better security in Iraq. He also answered questions from reporters about operations in Iraq, changes in the focus of Iraq policy, and the 2006 midterm elections. close
