Willy Lam talked about his book Chinese Politics in the Hu Jintao Era: New Leaders, New Challenges, published by M.E. Sharpe. The book is based on hundreds of interviews with top Chinese officials. It provides a comprehensive look at the leadership taking China into the 21st Century. In a conversation with Bates Gill, moderated by Ambassador Harvey Feldman, Mr. Lam discussed the rise of Hu Jintao and the “Fourth Generation” leadership, and their essential traits and biases, including the apparent tightening of controls on all forms of dissent as well as information flow. They examined the implications for U.S. policy. close
