The House Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the implications of the president’s Iraq policy for total force readiness. Witnesses talked about plans for reserve mobilization under the president’s plan to send and additional 21,500 troops to Iraq, personnel and material readiness issues, and potential impact on the National Guard and Reserve ability to respond to other matters. A second panel talked about the impact of early and extended deployments on personnel and family morale, as well as potential hardships associated with deployments in support of regular forces in Iraq. close
