Representative Jesse Jackson,Jr. , a member of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, provided opening and closing remarks. Moderated by Professor James Horton, panelists discussed African American perspectives on Abraham Lincoln. Topics included racial relations and full integration, Lincoln’s grudging view of racial equality, racial issues and the Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation, black troops helping win the Civil War, Frederick Douglass on Lincoln, the 1963 March on Washington, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After their presentations, the panelists responded to audience members' questions.
