Fritz Stern talked about the modern history of Germany in the form of a memoir entitled Five Germanys I Have Known. He talked about the cultural history of Germany from the Enlightenment of the 17th Century to the unification of Germany in the 1990s. He defined contemporary German history into the five identities: Wilhelmine, Weimar Republic, Third Reich, East and West Germany, and the Unification of Germany. He also talked about the collective guilt and confusion of the German people for the Holocaust. He answered questions from the audience. close
