Ken Alder talked about his book The Lie Detectors: The History of an American Obsession, published by Free Press. He focused on America’s fascination with the concept of truth in his history of the lie detector, a device invented in the 1920s by John Larson and Leonarde Keeler. Mr. Larson did not want to see the device used commercially and its sale for general application by Mr. Keeler lead to the dissolution of the inventors' relationship. Mr. Alder also responded to questions from the audience. close
