The co-authors were interviewed by Professor Ogletree about their book, Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas, published by Doubleday. They talked about their reasons for writing the book, including considerable differences of opinion about Justice Thomas among blacks. They described his childhood in rural Georgia, his education at Holy Cross and Yale, his contentious Supreme Court appointment, and his subsequent service on the U.S. Supreme Court. The authors described Justice Thomas as a man who is uncomfortable in white society and not accepted by many blacks because of his political views. After their presentations the authors responded to audience members' questions. close
