Amity Shlaes is a visiting senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. She is also the author of The Greedy Hand: How Taxes Drive Americans Crazy and What to Do About It, published by Harvest Books.
Amity Shlaes was interviewed about her book, The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression, published by HarperCollins. In her book the author re-examines the financial history of the Great Depression and critiques the New Deal. She argued that it was the fortitude of the individual citizen and not President Roosevelt’s economic plan that sustained people throughout the depression. She also recounted the lives of these “forgotten men” as well as the proponents and critics of the New Deal. The guest interviewer was Nick Gillespie.
