Ted Gup was interviewed by Mr. Mills about his book, Nation of Secrets: The Threat to Democracy and the American Way of Life, published by Doubleday. Investigative journalist Gup contended that current U.S. political culture is defined by a misguided desire for secrecy. He argued that an ever-growing flood of classified documents undermines the transparency of democratic institutions. He examined the role of the journalist in navigating this terrain and the general public’s access to information that he argued has become increasingly limited. After the interview Mr. Gup responded to audience members' questions.
