The Lie Detectors Ken Alder talked about his book, The Lie Detectors: The History of an American Obsession, published by Free Press. He was interviewed by Elizabeth Taylor. He described the history of the polygraph machine and America’s fascination with the truth. He examined the benefits of using the invention, as well as the flaws of the device. He also told the story of its creators. After his interview he responded to audience members' questions.

Professor Alder is a director with the Science in Human Culture Program. He has written other books including The Measure of All Things: The Seven Year Odyssey and Hidden Error that Transformed the World. close
