Federal health and law enforcement officials testified about containment of contagious diseases and public safety issues in light of a recent incident involving a citizen who had traveled to Europe and then returned to the U.S. with a highly treatment-resistant strain of tuberculosis. They focused on emergency measures to control epidemics, federal responses to the specific incident, and lessons learned from the case.
