Mr. Wellstone talked about a hearing on mental health and substance abuse in the House Education and Labor Committee. The hearing will focus on a bill that aims to require insurance companies to treat mental illness in the same way as physical illness for insurance purposes. The bill is named for former Senator Paul Wellstone, who championed this legislation for several years before his death. It is sponsored by Reps. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and Jim Ramstad (R-MN). The senator’s son David and former first lady Rosalyn Carter are among those testifying at the hearing. close
