President Bush held a new conference in the newly renovated Brady Press Briefing Room in which he answered questions on Iraq policy and other issues. Most questions focused on details of a White House interim report on operations in Iraq and benchmarks for progress in building Iraqi security. In his remarks he acknowledged public anxiety over the conflict in Iraq but remained resolute about his prerogative to conduct the war as he sees fit. He said he might be willing to consider a new approach, but not until September, when military and foreign policy officials made a more comprehensive assessment of conditions in Iraq. close
